Hello!

It's an odd title for a blog, "standing together, facing Christ."  Super-Smart Hunky Husband (SSHH) and I first heard that phrase over nine years ago, as we knelt in church, all dressed up, at our wedding Mass.

Fr. Mike, wise man that he was, explained that marriage isn't about two people in love, gazing into each other's eyes.  People change, love can change, but marriage doesn't change.  Rather, marriage is about a couple standing side by side as a family, taking on everything together with their lives oriented towards God.  That kind of marriage breeds love, respect, and permanence.

Those words struck both SSHH and I, and over the years we've tried to keep them in mind as we've built our family.  They've certainly been in our minds as we've wrestled with our latest decision over our children's education - how do we keep our family moving in the right direction?  What even is the right direction?

Last night we were having a serious, sometimes heated discussion about how to select the right curriculum for Sprout.  He must have heard us, as he wandered out of his room and said, "I've been talking to God about this, and God talked back to me and said you're going to do what's best for me.  You're going to do the right thing and he's always going to take care of us.  Then I saw him there with me.  Does that ever happen to you?"

Sprout has so many gifts, and prayer has always been one of them.  His talk with God couldn't have come at a better time to remind us that as long as we're standing together, facing Christ, Christ will be standing with us, being our compass and anchor.

We hope to use this blog to chronicle our family journey this year - for ourselves, for our families, as a journal of sorts.  Please pray with us and support us as we take on our children's education.
